Today’s Religious Observation is All Souls’ Day and The Day of the Dead.
All Souls’ day commemorates the dearly departed. It is believed that those souls who have not attained beatific vision in heaven yet can be helped by prayer and Mass and therefore this day is important just like any other religious celebration.
Día de los Muertos, or The Day of the Dead is a holiday celebrated in Mexico where family and friends gather together to pray for and remember the relatives and loved ones that have died. This celebration occurs on the 1st and 2nd of November in connection with the Catholic holy days of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day. The family and friends build private altars honoring the deceased and bring their favourite foods and beverages as gifts. It is believed that it is easier for the souls of the departed to visit the living on this day.
Woaaah sounds freaky :S Thank God the day went by without me knowing about it haha
Humm…
I’m a little confused here. Do you mean that the dead roams around on that day in order to be able to contact with the living? or it’s the day where we can pray and help the souls that couldn’t cross over? or maybe both?
well its both in the sense that.. All Souls’ Day is when you pray for those who couldn’t cross over and those who already have. The Day of the Dead is on the same day and the people of Mexican heritage believe that it’s easier for the dead the visit the living. This holiday/celebration also focuses on praying for the deceased.
Hey,
Nice blog you got there but I am really interested on this topic. Though my family were born Christian my parents gave me the liberty to chose my religion, and since I chose to be Atheist I never got to know about this day. Im glad I do now because I lost someone really close to me few years back and there are a lot of things that remained untold.
Do you think I can get to them through this day?
or maybe, would you know any ways to contact the dead?
Thanks.
